The Way To Go People

jimmeyer I've been playing catch-up with the band's early albums, transported by their richly layered melodies, sprinkled with mysterious dystopian reflections in the lyrics. Then, in the middle of a long recording hiatus and at the nadir of our pandemic downfalls, tenacious DE bring forth the most direct, uplifting art-pop of their entire oeuvre. It's both a great intro to the outfit, and like nothing before it. The Great Depression, greatly underappreciated. Thanks for posting lyrics.

about

It's 2020. We have a new song. "The Way To Go People" points to the cooperative optimism required for harmonic existence in the face of entropic absurdities … a tribute of sorts, to humanity, most notably today as a great global COVID-19 equalizer leads us to contemplate solidarity and look for love and strength in each other while hurting for leadership.

lyrics

John Lennon, this song is true
The Way To Go People got drawn to you
So much to do
All these dreamers down in the mud
Are almost begging you to bring the flood
I guess it's in their blood

Everything is new under the sun
We have always just begun

Don Quixote, dust off your lance
None of these windmills stand a chance
Then it's north to France
When the monolith quakes in fear
The Way To Go People will stand and cheer
And watch it disappear

Everything is new under the sun
We have always just begun

Scraping off the media shower
Subatomic particles and psychic power
A million miles an hour
The dark matter is playing rough
But the Way To Go People are looking up
Maybe that's enough

Everything is new under the sun
And we have always just begun
We have always just begun
